Hartland Robotics began with a few passionate parents and mentors running small teams out of their homes. What started as a grassroots effort has since grown into one of the most vibrant and expansive youth robotics programs in the region.
The first school-sponsored robotics effort in Hartland began with FIRST LEGO League, introduced by school administration to spark STEM curiosity in young learners. In Fall 2011, the first middle school and high school teams were formed, marking the beginning of organized competitive robotics in the district. As student interest grew, a second middle school team was added in Fall 2012, and by Fall 2016, the Upper Elementary School launched its first teams.
To better support the growing program, the Hartland Robotics Association was established in 2017. While independently operated, the Association was endorsed by Hartland Consolidated Schools to run all extracurricular robotics activities across the district—finally bringing all student teams under a unified, community-driven structure.
In 2018, we became a founding member of the Livingston County Robotics Alliance, a collaborative initiative to strengthen robotics education and STEM outreach across the region.
In 2019, we became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, opening the door to expanded fundraising and sponsorship opportunities.
In 2020, the community voted “Yes” on a school bond that helped make our next big leap possible: a state-of-the-art, $1.4 million robotics center dedicated to STEM education and competitive robotics.
With this purpose-built facility, our capabilities grew exponentially. We added a CNC mill, CNC router, lathe, a variety of 3D printers, other machining equipment, and a full-size playing field for our high school FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team.
Today, Hartland Robotics supports:
2 preschool teams
27 lower elementary teams
8 upper elementary teams
4 middle school teams
1 high school team
We proudly serve nearly 300 students with the support of over 160 adult volunteers—a dedicated community of mentors, coaches, and advocates who make this program possible.
